KHI Inspiration – Travel
Inspiration can come from anywhere at any given moment. I can be inspired in a design center or window shopping. A particular piece may just speak to me and seem like the perfect fit for a particular client. Sometimes inspiration comes from simply wandering and living in the present. For me, inspiring moments tend to come when I am outside, enjoying nature. I find the natural environment to be a grounding place where I can free my mind and let the creative juices flow. This doesn’t mean I will find inspiration for a specific project I am working on, but rather a detail, image or thought that I can save for later. I collect these moments and visuals; the memories or photos serve as a reference point that influences a project when the time and client is right.
During a trip to Mallorca, I was exploring the island and discovered this flower. I was mesmerized by it, and I still am. The colors, shape and texture struck me as very unusual, yet perfect. As I explore color palettes and materials, this inspiring image challenges me to think outside the box and play with unusual combinations to create the perfect palette for my clients. This post isn’t about Mallorca (that is coming) but should you find yourself there, please try the Majorcan Almond Cake.
If you are looking for inspiration, go outside and connect with nature. As John Muir said, “In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.”
